The government has been urged to start secondary schools to accommodate children with mental disabilities. Esther Karanja, the principal of Maria Magdalena Special School For Mentally Handicapped at Munyu-Thika in Kiambu county, said such children are forced to stay home after completing primary school due to lack of secondary schools that can meet their special educational needs. Speaking after hosting more than 400 mentally challenged children, Karanja appealed to the government to build special secondary schools for this children. The early Christmas fair was sponsored by a Netherlands based Lilian Fords foundation saw children of various schools from different counties with the same challenge enjoy camel riding, bouncing castles swings among other fun fairs. The Maria Magdalena school head girl, Martha Njoki appealed to the government and well wishers to regularly offer moral and financial support to schools that host children with mental disorders and other disabilities across the country noting they have been neglected. The Lilian Fords foundation promised to support the course early and fund some projects in the school.
