陈晓、陈笛：
首先，我要说，你们一生幸福是我们最大的愿望，长大以后，你们做任何事情都应该以是否让自己幸福为标准。现在许多父母，或者说整个中国社会，都以子女是否“孝顺”来评判子女的“好坏”。你们千万不要有这种包袱，我们真的不希望你们这样想。
说实在的，我和你妈妈已经买好退休基金、医疗保险、投资基金。我们会在经济上作好各种安排，等年老后不用你们“孝敬”回报。我们这样做，不是因为担心你们不“孝顺”，而是我们太爱你们，太在乎我们会成为你们的负担。你们的幸福是我们唯一的指望，这包括尊重你们长大后选择职业、选择男友的自由。
等你们长大成家以后，也希望你们教育自己的子女这样做，要一代代自己在经济财力上独立、自立，维护自己的尊严！说白了，我不想看到你们把生子养女看成一种利益需要、把子女当成养老避险的工具！在自己选择怀孕、生育孩子之前，你必须问问自己：是不是因为热爱小孩、热爱生命、热爱人之情才要怀子育女的？

First, I would like to say our biggest wish and expectation is that both of you are happy all your life; when you grow up, you should make sure you are happy whatever you are doing. For most of the Chinese parents, or rather the whole Chinese society, filial piety is regarded as a critical criterion in judging the children. You should not let it weigh on your mind. We really do not expect you to think this way.
To be honest, your mother and I have already bought pension funds, medical insurance, and investment funds. We will make good financial arrangements, so we don’t need your filial return when we get older. We do it because we have profound love for you and are too worried that we might become a burden to you. It’s not because we fear that you might not be filial. Our only expectation of you is that you have your own happiness, and we will respect your freedom in choosing professions and boyfriends when you grow up.
When you grow up and have your own families, I hope that you will tell the same lesson to your kids as we do. Each generation should be financially independent and earn their own living, so as to maintain their dignity! In one word, I do not expect you to regard bearing children as a means of serving your own interest and children as a tool to support you in your old age! Before you make up your mind to give birth to a child, you must ask yourselves: is it because of love for kids, for life, and for affection among people that you choose to have a baby?
