　　Special Olympics International held news conferences in both Shanghai and Washington D.C. on May 24th, 2002 to announce that Shanghai China won the bid to host the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games. This is the first time for Special Olympics World Summer Games to be held in Asia and in a developing country.
　　2002年5月24日，国际特奥会同时在上海和华盛顿两地召开新闻发布会，宣布上海获得2007年夏季世界特殊奥林匹克运动会的主办权。这是世界夏季特殊奥林匹克运动会第一次在亚州的发展中国家举办。
　　Scheduled to run from Oct. 2 to 11, the 2007 Special Olympics mark the first time the event will be held in Asia Over ten thousand Special Olympics athletes and coaches, over twenty thousand family members of athletes, experts, scholars and distinguished guests,as well as forty thousand volunteers from more than 170 countries and regions will attend this grand event.
　　10月2日至11日，2007年世界特殊奥林匹克运动会将首次在亚洲举行。届时，将有来自世界170多个国家和地区的1万多名特奥运动员、教练员，2万多名运动员家长、专家学者和嘉宾以及万名志愿者参加这次盛会。
　　Cellist Yo-Yo Ma will serve as music adviser for the event. Lu Chuan, who is a famous young director, will be the event's artistic director.
　　著名大提琴表演艺术家马友友将担任开幕式的音乐顾问。知名青年导演陆川担任艺术总监。
　　 Iinternational stars taking part in the event include Olympics global ambassador Zhang Ziyi and Jackie Chan.
　　国际著名影星成龙、奥会全球大使章子怡也确认将出席开幕式。
　　There will be altogether 21 competitive events, include bowling, outdoor bowls, sailboat, golf, weightlifting, basketball, equitation, volleyball, table tennis, handball, aquatic sports, gymnastics, track and field, tennis, badminton, cycling, canoeing, judo, ice skating, soccer and baseball.
　　正式比赛项目包括：保龄球、室外滚球、帆船、高尔夫、举重、篮球、马术、排球、乒乓球、手球、水上运动、体操、田径、网球、羽毛球、自行车、皮划艇、柔道、溜冰、足球、棒球，共21项。
　　Performance events include dragon & lion dance, dragon boat race, cricket and Motor Activities Training Program (MATP).
　　表演项目有：舞龙舞狮、赛龙舟、板球、机能运动。
　　Non-sports programs include the Law Enforcement Torch Run,Host Town Program,Healthy Athletes Program, Parent Forum, Youth Summit and School Enrichment Program etc.
　　非体育项目有：执法人员火炬跑、社区接待计划、健康运动员计划、家长论坛、青少年峰会、学校教育计划等。
